“There is such a special sweetness in being able to participate in creation” Pamela S Nadev

Yes. Motherhood is such a joyful sensation of life. These are the defining moments of women’s power. The world revolves around this phase of womanhood and there is no substitute that initiates progress on the earth.

Every woman and their family desires a complication-free pregnancy. Due to modern lifestyle changes, people tend to rely more on an unhealthy diet. Several other pregnancy period complication-aggravating factors viz. work load stress, anxiety etc. are the characteristic features of modern life.

These factors affect even young women who are at an advanced stage of their pregnancy. Medical professionals have to deal with increased rate of abortions and cesarean sections arising out of health complications including hypertension, and diabetes.

Preconception care in ayurveda

In this scenario, Ayurveda, the ancient Indian medical practice, has given much importance to preconception care. Beeja Samskara in Ayurveda emphasises on a good diet and lifestyle practices.

Garbhini Paricharya or antenatal care in Ayurveda

Ayurveda also deals with antenatal care through Garbhini Paricharya. This field deals with preparedness before conceiving as well as pregnancy period care. Garbhini Paricharya details about the dos and don’ts and the regimen and diet to be followed during the entire pregnancy period. The field also deals with some treatment protocols.

Sutika Paricharya in Ayurveda or post natal care

A specialised post natal care in Ayurveda is known as Sutika Paricharya.

Sutika Paricharya ensures that the original strength and body structure of women are regained after delivery.

We all are familiar with the old dictum “prevention is better than cure”. Ayurveda is a holistic science. One can prevent the pregnancy related complications by following healthy lifestyle and diet. Healthy and happy mother is the reason behind a healthy child.
