Gloom cloud the industry
There is a sense of palpable gloom in the film industry as hard work wane within few hours after release of several high profile films. Irfan Khan starrer Angrezi Medium and Tiger Shroff starrer Baaghi 3 were in TamilRockers’ new site within few hours after their theatrical release.
Piracy problem had also affected several other new releases. Allu Arjun starrer Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo had to deal with the issue of piracy moments after its release. The film was uploaded in Tamilrockers‘ new sites within few hours after its theatrical release.
Most recently, Deepika Padukone starrer Chhapaak, Ajay Devgan starrer Tanhaji and Dhanush starrer Pattas had also become victims of piracy conundrum.
In the midst of piracy talk, a single name always take the centre stage. Tamil Rockers, a known piracy website with roots in the state of Tamil Nadu in India. Months back, a few of the site’s administrators were arrested in the western city of Coimbatore.
They are smart in technology as they are known for frequent changes in their domain name to evade law enforcement agencies and to stream the site without getting suspended. Some of the domain names which were used by Tamilrockers include
Tamilrockers .cc , Tamilrockers.to, Tamilrockers.be, Tamilrockers.pm, Tamilrockers.ws, tamilrockers.com, tamilrockers.net, tamilrockers.re, tamilrockers.gr, tamilrockers.li, tamilrockers.be, tamilrockers.ac, tamilrockers.tw, tamilrockers.ws, tamilrockers.cx, tamilrockers.co, www.tamilrockers.com, tamilrockers.lv, tamilrockers.cz, tamilrockers.ai, tamilrockers.cl, Tamilrockers.hn, tamilrockers.az, tamilrockers.vu, tamil rockers.la, tamil rockers.in, tamil rockers.mx, tamilrockers.ru, tamilrockers.az, tamilrockers .la, tamilrockers.vs, tamilrockers.mz, tamil rockers.ws, tamilrockers.by, tamilrockers.ph, tamilrockers.bz
With their ability to regain strength and recoup even after suspending their websites, it is clear that mere suspension of websites is no longer a long-term solution to counter the problem of piracy. Awareness campaigns against the use of pirated content have garnered some positive results but are not meaningful enough to counter piracy.
Need strict law enforcement
The law must be strict enough to deal with those who are producing pirated content. There is a need to identify the masterminds and investors behind this grey economy. Authorities must take strict action against the perpetrators as movies like Dharmaprabhu coming online may severely dent the prospects of regional low-profile and low-budget films.
Piracy is a major threat to the industry. Theatre surveillance to counter movie recording must be effective. The government and the industry must deal with this problem in a result-oriented manner. Otherwise the industry will turn into red and in future it will affect the employment opportunities of many youth.
